LOUISA - THE FROG AND HER NEW SHOES (fragment)

Once upon a time, Louisa – the frog
Went to see Mr. Furney, the shoe-making dog.
” My dear Furney I  came to choose
Some summer footwear and winter shoes”.
The shoe-making mongrel that lived in the yard
Was very trustworthy in every regard.
He didn’t bark a lot, nor did he growl,
Even when a cat came closer to miaow.
Mr.Cobbler-his teacher mastered in his trade,
And Furney learned quickly how nice shoes were made.
He said: ” summer footwear will fit you quite well.
I have suitable sandals on offer to sell.
Their front is more roomy, their back has a nice squeeze.
They are liked by web-footed, the Lake District geese.
The design will be perfect. Sizes vary a bit.
Would you try the green ones to see if the fit?”
” They are nice, although simple” – was Louisa’s reply
And not to offend Furney she praised their style.
“They follow the fashion, the ones I have seen.
I love their colours, except those in green.
It is my complexion, Tony – the hedgehog was mocking,
Calling me a green cabbage that is fond of hopping”.
” This is bad” – said Furney – ” politically challenging.
We all know Tony’s temper and mood always changing.
This hedgehog is a problem for he has a screw loose.
He is regarded spiky, often in the blues

LOUISA - THE FROG AND A SINGING NIGHTINGALE (fragment)

Louisa – the frog on a warm night in May
Was listening to singing of a nightingale.
The sweetest of music was floating around
Touching her little heart with wonderful sound.
” This is just superb, the best I’ve heard so far
And the singer, no doubt, is the greatest star.
Listening to croaking has become a bore
And that is what my cousins are so famous for.
My closest family which is far from small,
Is in our parish the loudest of all.
Contrary to the habit as their relation
I do my croaking in moderation.
Among my virtues, which I have a few,
Is listening to others’ various points of view.
As for the nightingale with a voice so rare
I’ll make  a concert in the open air.
Free tickets could be offered to all as a favour
But I would expect the best of behaviour,
Because the artist who is yet unknown
For classical singing was certainly born.
I’ll write him a letter about the event
Which Johnny – the dove will present by hand”.
Although Louisa’s writing was not questioned before
It was taking some time and her fingers felt sore.
The sun was already setting giving way to the night
When a rather short letter seemed to be all right.
She put it in a bag; taking the utmost care
And took it to the woods because the dove lived there.
She reached the clearing soon looking for birds above
And very loudly indeed she started calling the dove…
